Carry the ball in football and in business…

Carry the ball in football and in business. Remember it is a team sport.

There are some great names in sports that have given us some great words to live by. These leaders inspire us in many aspects of our lives. We are motivated by their words and their ability to carry us to great victories.

What the heck are your talking about Val?

Well, in a previous post, I quoted Wayne Gretsky in his “follow the puck” analogy to understand what lies ahead in business and in life so you can grow with some amount of confidence that you will not be left behind as technology changes by the minute. You can read about it HERE!

And today, I want to use another sports figure quote to illustrate a message that pertains to our business.

We must remember how to carry the ball in football and in business!

I know football season is over this year, but I think this quote is worth exploring.

The quote is by Vince Lombardi, head football coach for the Green Bay Packers, who took his team to three straight league championships, five in seven years, including winning the first two Superbowls in the 1966 and 1967 seasons. The NFL’s Superbowl trophy is named in his honor.

So what this means, is that Vince Lombardi was a great coach, and a great leader. He inspired the teams that he coached to do great things. He took them to the top!

If you read about his life, you will find that he was a tough cookie. He was disciplined, but had a deep faith and belief system. He was stubborn, but knew how to win.

His legacy is a model to follow especially in business. With sports, being competitive is expected… to be anything but the best is unacceptable. You play to win, and to win, you need the cohesive drive by all the players to get the job done. You need cooperation and collaboration to take it to the goal post.

Vince Lombardi said, “The strength of the group is the strength of the leaders.”

When I read this quote, I realized that the same could be said for network marketing. In this business, we have some amazing leaders. These leaders show us the way to find our own successes, however we define what success means for each of us. For some it may be money, and lots of it! For others, it may be the ability to help others, which without money would be impossible to do. Our leaders are the pioneers. They are the trailblazers. And their hearts are in helping others find their way to success. They’ve already done it, so the next level for them is to help others get what they have.

The leaders in our business encourage us to do the things we are reluctant to do. They do this because they know it works, and they are not afraid to walk the walk and talk the talk.

If we are not willing to do what the leaders are doing, then we cannot be surprised when our business does nothing too!

Vince Lombardi said, “Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.”

We need to carry the ball in football and in business, and take it to the goalpost.

Vince Lombardi said something else that I found to ring true… he said, “The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender.” The last thing you want to do is stop 3 yards short of the goal post.

Do you ever commit to something, that others express doubt in what you are doing? The thought of failure gives you the drive to make it work. The last thing you want is to have the skeptics say “see I told you so!” So you hunker down, and keep working until you have proven that what you set out to do becomes a success. You know success is right in front of you, and it may happen tomorrow, or the next day – you just need the patience of Job.

So take it from those who have done great things before us…

Carry the ball in football and in business – be a leader and don’t give up!

To your success…

Very valid Val! I love the quote about leader being made not born! Takes hard work. A lot of people get into this business thinking it is going to be easy money, but don’t realize who you need to become to run a successful business!

Great pep talk, Val. You illustration about not stopping 3 feet before the goal line is what happens many times when we lose heart or let someone’s comments sway us from our goals.
